BLM Volunteer Project

Rocky Ireland Publishers is proud to now be in our 6th year of adopting the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Bangs Canyon Staging Area off Little Park Road, which is located 8 miles southwest of Grand Junction, Colorado. This area includes: Rough Canyon, the Mica Mine, Ladder Canyon, and the Tabeguache trail. As a BLM Certified Crew Leader and Archaeological Site Steward Jeffery Fleming leads the workdays.
This
BLM area receives hundreds of visitors each week who
use the area to recreate. This multi-use area is the
destination for both local and worldwide visitors.
Maintenance and
Cleaning
Due to
high
volume foot traffic and natural erosion on the Rough Canyon Trail and
Mica Mine Trail the area needs attention. On work days we:
*clean
*pick up trash
*repair erosion
*reroute the trail to make it more sustainable
*trim brush away from the trail route
*remove invasive Tamarisk and Russian Olive
*locate and log significant historical sites
Rocky
Ireland has committed to repair and stabilize the trails to make them
more sustainable.
